Corona Del Mar Kitchen Tour

A timeless kitchen update with European charm

We are so glad to be kicking off the new year of home tours with this CDM gem! This minor remodel had major impact to the clients and this cheerful home and we couldn't be more excited to share the results. Take a look at some of our favorite details...

The Plan

Maximizing the space without changing the layout means really pushing the boundaries for creative storage. Rather than a jumbled corner and a countertop microwave, it was important to provide visible countertop and accessible corners in this kitchen. The island is full of deep drawers to provide plenty of storage, and our countertop hutch houses an appliance garage and more beautiful storage space that is front and center. Glass displays on either side of the range hood provide a space to show our favorite items while keeping majority of the kitchen supplies neatly tucked away -- could you guess that this space is home to two sweet babies? We love the balance of these moments that make this kitchen work so well for this family.

Grade-A Appliances

We always love partnering with Pirch and our amazing appliance team to bring our clients the very best selections for them. This paneled refrigerator was able to be integrated into the millwork, making this cozy kitchen feel larger. In a continued effort to hide some of the stainless steel, we designed a countertop appliance garage that hides the microwave and tucked a wine fridge on the side less seen. A paneled dishwasher and double ovens ensures that even when space is at a premium, a well-designed kitchen can stand up to the test.

The Details

A simple yet elegant palette helped to set the tone for this kitchen transformation. From orange-hued oak to a satin white finish, the kitchen cabinet upgrades made the largest impact to a simple space. How the light peeks through the trees and into the CDM neighborhood casts a beautiful golden-hour glow. We took that into consideration as we selected our warm white -- Cascade Mountains by Benjamin Moore.

Handmade ceramic subway tiles in an array of light grey hues provide the bold character that simple kitchens need, with a unique artisan touch. The variation in tone is reflected beautifully in the movement of the new flooring and subtly-veined countertops. The warm European voice is echoed throughout the space, with hints of brass in the hardware and warm, stained wood on the island -- really grounding the room and providing beautiful balance. Stunning lighting and a curated collection of decorative accessories bring a bit of charm that ties everything together.
